Let’s Go Learn Awarded Grant by the U.S. Department of Education

KENSINGTON, Calif., (September 17, 2001) - Let's Go Learn, a literacy-focused educational software developer, has been awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Grant by the U.S. Department of Education. The Phase I $60,000 grant will contribute to Let's Go Learn development of diagnostic web-based literacy tools. "The Department of Education's grant is a great validation of our unique approach to helping solve the literacy crisis," said Richard Capone, CEO and co-founder of Let's Go Learn. "It's more important than ever to ensure that our teachers and parents have access to the best tools that can provide concrete steps for reading remediation." Literacy expert Dr. Richard McCallum of U.C. Berkeley, who as a co-founder and advisor has been working closely with Let's Go Learn since early 2000, comments, "Let's Go Learn presents a tremendous opportunity to bring together the best practices in reading assessment and instruction with web-based technologies. Let's Go Learn will provide teachers, administrators, and parents with individualized skills-based instructional tools, thus fulfilling the missing piece in the reading reform effort—an individualized, motivating, and easily accessible environment for reading instruction." Let's Go Learn and the U.S. Department of Education will strive to improve children's reading skills by producing scalable tools that will rapidly advance literacy achievement for students of all ages and backgrounds. In 2002, Let's Go Learn will be eligible to apply for the Phase II grant of $300,000.
