This is a very low frequency error. Some customers using either older computers or computers with not enough RAM may encounter a situation where they can perform the assessment but when they get to the Word Meaning (also known as Oral Vocabulary) subtest, the assessment seems to freeze. The example audio will play and then four pictures will appear. But when they click on a picture the example audio replays. It appears to get stuck in a loop. The short-term solution has been rebooting the computer which clears up more RAM to be used by Internet Explorer (IE) and the Flash plug-in operating within IE. The long-term solution is cleaning up the computer so that Internet Explorer and Flash can have enough access to RAM to run properly. In situations where rebooting the computer doesn’t clear up the problem, the users should try to disable some of the Internet Explorer plugins. For instance tool bars such as the google, yahoo, or other third party tools may be using up the RAM and not allowing Flash to properly run. (in IE go to: Tools menu: Select "Manage Add-ons".) Also at the desktop, right clicking on auto-launched application icons on the bottom right portion of the screen in Windows and selecting exit may also free up more RAM. Windows applications have a tendency to install auto-launching applications that are always running. These can use up RAM on some computer systems that do not have enough RAM. Final note, the Word Meaning subtest uses more IE/Flash resources than other subtests because it is loading an audio file and four pictures. Most other DORA subtests are loading a single audio file and four text files.
