i-Ready Diagnostic is advertised as a diagnostic assessment, but by the definition of a diagnostic assessment, it more closely resembles a benchmark or screener assessment. Technically, i-Ready Diagnostic uses predictive data on individual items to determine how students are performing. This assumes students are the "norm" and will not correctly identify student strengths or weakness for students who are "at-risk" or otherwise generally not the "norm." True diagnostic assessments thoroughly test to determine what students actually can or cannot do, in the multiple areas of a subject matter. i-Ready Diagnostic reporting is focused more on roll-up reports used for accountability, rather than providing thorough and accurate information for teachers.

We've been using iReady and I agree the reports are very pretty but it doesn't inform my instruction for me or at least not accurately.
