Allan HeatonDirector of Engineering
What is your story?
I attended LGL's first formal brainstorm meeting prior to the company's launch in 2000. We were about 10-15 business professionals and friends contemplating how we could change education with some next-generation online tools! As a result of that meeting, I started contracting with LGL to develop its website and various front-end projects. As web technologies evolved with content management systems becoming the standard, I too furthered my skills extensively. I was intrigued by all the back-end technologies being used and I tinkered in all of them. Coming aboard full-time in 2006 allowed me to scope the existing back-end hardware and software systems and bring my own expertise into play as LGL sought new technologies to meet its growth needs. Today, as the Director of Engineering, I am continuing to develop and improve our current systems to meet the needs of our customers as education technology continues its evolution. The popularity of LGL’s computer adaptive assessment solutions is keeping me and my team of engineers on our toes as we methodically plan our next steps to keep ahead of the ever-increasing growth trajectory that LGL is following.
My background was originally in medical IT administration, revolving around electronic medical record systems and HIPAA compliancy. This gave me a great initial foundation, as I was elbow deep in serving a medical staff’s high-stakes needs. In subsequent years, I worked independently on an uncountable number of web-design, database, CMS, and e-commerce projects. I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Information Technology along with various network/server certifications.
What are your main hobbies?
I train in Shotokan karate, am an avid fisherman, and am the husband and father to a wonderful family.
