LGL Math Edge uses the same instructional levels identified during our diagnostic assessments to generate an engaging, personalized math program for each student. Every LGL Math Edge lesson provides explicit instruction and practice that is in a student’s ZPD and cognitively accessible through animations, songs, graphics, and interactivity. Students are engaged with properly leveled content that reinforces newly mastered skills and concepts during gamified instructional practice.

Because practice activities are designed to feel like games for students, individuals are motivated to play until they reach optimum “scores” that act as progress indicators. Practices deepen conceptual understanding and critical thinking and can be used for independent practice, small group instruction, or whole-class teaching. As students work through the various explicit and leveled instructional lessons, the responsive platform employs direct instructional feedback. Will LGL Math Edge support learning loss or unfinished learning due to the pandemic?

Yes! LGL Math Edge starts with an extremely accurate and broad-ranging assessment that identifies all gaps across a K-8/9 range for any student regardless of their grade level. Then targeted lessons are given in a personalized course for each student. This results in ongoing mastery of math standards and rapid remediation.

Will LGL Math Edge fulfill the Texas HB4545 legislation requiring immediate intervention in the fall for any student with a non-proficient on the STAAR state test?

Yes! LGL ELA Edge will meet this requirement with flying colors. Students who are not proficient on the STAAR state test will take a diagnostic assessment aligned with TEKS standards and it will identify math learning gaps. Our system then analyzes student diagnostic data and creates a learning path to close student gaps. Not only does each student get their own customized course targeting their exact needs, but the LGL system tracks performance and updates the course as warranted by student performance.

Does LGL Math Edge work for students with IEPs?

Yes, it is ideal for targeted SDI or specially designed instruction. It will identify student gaps automatically and then create a course specifically designed for each student. With easy access to diagnostic and progress-monitoring data, educators can develop PLAAFPs and IEPs or inform conversations about academic performance to use during parent meetings. What is supplemental instruction?

LGL Math Edge is supplemental instruction that supports core instruction. Teachers can use LGL Math Edge’s online resources to implement math intervention programs; to supplement classroom instruction; to provide targeted math homework; and to ensure that before-and-after school tutoring services parallel classroom instruction. Supplemental instruction is used to provide scaffolding from mastered content to unfinished learning or for intervention for students in Tiers 2 or 3. The goal of supplemental instruction is to provide a bridge to core instruction to ensure grade-level mastery of learning standards. In other words, evidence-based supplemental instruction ensures equity and access for all students.

Can I use LGL Math Edge during a Zoom session?

LGL Math Edge works perfectly for Zoom sessions because it was designed to be used online for multiple purposes. For example, teachers can have students view the instruction together and then have students discuss the content in breakout rooms. Or students could do a lesson together in a breakout room and then come back together to discuss the content and practice with the teacher.

Can I use LGL Math Edge as part of special education services?

Many teachers of special education use LGL Math Edge to provide instruction and supports that are specially designed to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. Each student takes LGL's math diagnostic assessment to discover learning gaps that are not tied to grade level or age but to key math concepts. Teachers can use our math diagnostic assessment, DOMA, to diagnose math-related issues, LGL Math Edge to provide targeted customized learning activities, and then monitor student progress with our formative assessments to address learning issues caused by dyscalculia. Because LGL Edge uses universal design and multiple sensory inputs in its instruction, it can aid students in learning mathematics.
