Sherry Scheiderman
Homeschooling
Why did you choose Let’s Go Learn?
Sherry Scheiderman: I’m a homeschool parent and I just wanted to get an idea of where my children were at with reading spelling and math because we use different programs than what the school would use. So it doesn’t go in the order that the school goes into. Both of my kids are autistic so I like the fact that their DORA program, which is for reading and spelling, and their ADAM program, which is for math, allowed us to start and stop whenever we felt that it was necessary.
What problems has Let’s Go Learn helped you solve?
Sherry Scheiderman: It has helped me solve the problem by breaking down exactly where they were, what areas do I need to focus on for especially for the ADAM program, the math one. It allows me to know as a homeschooler… because I have a tendency to want to do every single lesson… it allows me to skip lessons that are redundant, that they don’t need, that they have mastered everything in, and I can just do quick reviews of them from time to time. That allows me to focus more on the areas that they do need more help in. Let’s say for instance fractions.
Why do you recommend Let’s Go Learn?
Sherry Scheiderman: I purchased both the DORA and the ADAM products. I used DORA for both of my kids, my oldest and my youngest, My youngest I still have a tendency to use it because even though he’s like 12th grade in reading and everything like that and he’s not even a 12th grader yet, and comprehension and things, he still is working with spelling and it reassures me that he hasn’t lost any of the abilities that he has gained and still gives me an idea where he is in spelling. What used to take a week to complete, he completed in a day or two now with that program. For ADAM, the math, I use that regularly. I recommend it highly as it breaks everything down and it just lets me know exactly where they are and what they need to be working on. And I can compare it to previous years to find out: did they gain any knowledge? Did they just stagnate? Have they lost anything? With my oldest I have a tendency to know that sometimes he’ll gain a new skill in one area, he’ll lose a little bit, not a lot in another, but the next time he takes it he’s back where he was and, the one that he lost his back up to where he was or achieves more and he still has retained the new information. So it just gives me an idea for comparison with previous years with the same child.
